We are beginning to reap what we have sown this year. Above is a picture of the first peach, third cucumber and fourth tomato of the season. We expect a bumper crop of tomatoes and peaches. Bruce even put bird netting around the peaches because Allison was tired of cutting out the parts the birds have eaten every time she wants a peach. We watch with anticipation as the first blush comes to the peaches as they ripen. Patiently we wait until the fruit has a little give when grasped and gives off a "peachy" smell (imagine that!). Unfortunately the birds like the peaches a day or two before we do! The netting should help us get peaches that have not been sampled. The neighbors are probably happy that the cucumbers won't be as plentiful this year. The small cucumber starts were eaten off at the ground again this year. Bruce then planted seeds. Not too many of the cucumber seeds germinated, but we hadn't checked the seedlings until it was too late to plant more.
Just another week or two before we will be eating stuffed peppers and peach smoothies!
